So you're standing in line at Eden Gourmet, your milk and eggs in hand, and the customer ahead begins to berate the cashier. The customer tells the cashier that she's too old to manage the scanner, too slow to make change. What do you do?
This was the premise of a segment of ABC's popular hidden camera, ethical dilemma series What Would You Do? The show puts ordinary people on the spot, asking them to react to instances of racism, gender bias, and, at Eden Gourmet on Sunday, age discrimination. The show is hosted by John Quinones, who was at Eden Gourmet.
The scenario was this, says Elyse Corwin, spokeswoman for the market. "Due to the economy there are more senior or older people in the workforce. The scene involved an older actor who acted as a cashier have difficulties with technology and with the check out process. The goal was to see what people’s reactions were in the scenario."

Corwin reports that public reactions were mixed. "Apparently there was a wide range of people upset with long, slow-moving lines and there were also people who were understanding in the situation."
The segment will air in mid-March.
