SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Meet Apple! He has been chosen as Springfield Patch's Pet Of The Week.

"Our dear 2 year old Apple, brother to Pear, is a huge source of joy and comfort to our family. His purr at the expectation of treats, his gentle taps on your nose to wake you up at 6 every morning without fail, his charging up and down stairs to play hide and seek, his leaps up onto the sink when ever he hears the sound of a tooth brush brushing teeth (he just wants to lick the cold water), all make him a special part of our house hold.

Apple has a different relationship with each member of our family but loves to play catch the treats with everyone. He has the uniqueness of an extra digit on each paw, which enables him to grasp tiny things ( as we do with hands) other cats can't.

My two sons begged to adopt him as a scrawny little kitten found abandoned on the street, coughing and very scared of the slightest move or unexpected sound. He now is "King" of his castle (our humble home in Springfield).

To his advantage he is still scared and very wary of the road and traffic, so we give him the bliss of time outside in the grass, sniffing flowers, stalking, the birds and bees and marveling at the elements.

Long live this little soul full of life's wonders unknowingly giving us such pleasure."
