The series begins with the program “Reflections on Brown v Board of Education and the Challenges Ahead,” starting at 7:00 PM on Monday, May 5, a presentation by the library’s guest scholar, Elise Boddie, an associate professor at Rutgers School of Law/Newark. In addition to a review of the landmark Supreme Court case within its historical context, the lecture will also focus on current challenges being faced in the educational landscape, and the ebb and flow of civil rights progress.
Professor Boddie was the director of litigation for the NAACP Legal Defense & Education Fund, Inc. (LDF) and oversaw the LDF’s advocacy in several major Supreme Court and appellate cases. Professor Boddie received her BA cum laude from Yale and her JD cum laude for Harvard and also earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.
