Dayton Math Teacher Honored by Yale

Chris White is one of four New Jersey recipients of the Yale Educator Award.

Chris White, a popular math teacher at Jonathan Dayton High School, has been recognized by his achievements as an educator by Yale University.

This week, Yale announced that White was among the winners of the Yale Educator Award. White is one of four teachers from New Jersey recognized by the program and is one of 50 teachers to be honored nationwide.

The recognition program aims to identify outstanding educators that have inspired their students to achieve. Matriculating students at Yale nominate high school educators, and a committee of Yale admissions officers review the nominations individually to designate recipients.

“[There is a] fair amount of work but [he is] an excellent teacher,” one student reviewer wrote, adding that White “always explains things if you don't understand and makes himself available for extra help.”

Other students praised him for his dedication and, notably, his temperament, with one reviewer calling him the “chillest summer school teacher ever.”
