Springfield's America 250 Celebrations Kick Off May 25

The summer-long slate of events wraps July 4 with inflatables, a petting zoo, and giant fireworks at dusk.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Springfield Township is marking the nation's 250th anniversary with a series of community celebrations spanning Memorial Day through Independence Day.

The first event kicks off May 25, when a Memorial Day ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at Veterans Park, followed by a special America 250 parade complete with floats.

On June 14, the township will commemorate the Battle of Springfield with a noon ceremony at DAR Battleground Cemetery, 39 Mountain Ave. The event continues with a SAR Wreath Laying at the First Presbyterian Church, followed by 200 free hot dogs and ice cream. Colonial fun, reenactors, and a Liberty Tree planting will be held at the Cannon Ball House, 126 Morris Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m. Parking is available at 150 Morris Ave.
