Sam Awad, an architect and a photographer, will
be showing an exhibition of his photographs at Donald B. Palmer Museum of the Springfield Public Library from July 2nd through August 2nd 2012.
Mr. Awad grew up with the love of the Arts in his
heart. He was sketching from the day he could hold a pencil in his hand and put down on paper the images in his head. As long as he could remember he was
captivated by imagery and its power, and photography was naturally something he wanted to be part of. You would imagine that he would grow up to be a professional photographer but the day he drew up the plan
of his parents’ house he knew he will be an architect. Nevertheless the love of photography never left him and still lives in him stronger than ever.
Architecture only helped him to bring structure and detail to his photography.
The pictures Sam Awad took with his first camera
are lost now as well as all the pictures he took later in life. The award winning photographs and the few commissions that he had are nowhere to be found, left behind in country of war.
Sam Awad immigrated to the United States in 1985
to start a new life away from the horrors of war. Survival kept him away from his passion: he had to work and photography was not on his priority list; but it kept calling him patiently to come back and he did. He exhibited in several juried shows in New Jersey and it was quite a feeling to have his photographs for all to see.
