Got call this morning from 202-280-7395. It was a recorded message from man with heavy Indian or Nigerian accent who did not identify himself until 1 minute into the message saying he was with the IRS and that there would be heavy legal consequences if I did not call him back at the IRS.
I did NOT call him back.
This was clearly a scam!
I knew it was a scam, because they would not be calling about that, they would send a letter in the mail from the official IRS govt. office. And I know someone who works for the Treasury dept, so I know how they do things properly, and it is not by making a threatening first phonecall.
When in doubt, look up the REAL IRS phone number at http://www.irs.gov and call that.
