Fall is by far the most important season in fashion. It’s the time of year when the kids are going back to school, teachers are going back to work and everyone is back from their lovely summer vacation spots. It’s the time of year everyone feels the need to buckle down and get serious to start fresh or in some cases end a fiscal year with a bang. The only way I have ever been able to get through the end of summer and the free feeling that comes with it, is shopping for Fall! It’s always been a thrill to look at the eight pound Fall issues of Vogue, In Style, Glamour and Lucky magazines to find the the absolutely amazing new must-have trends for the upcoming season!

I searched and searched this year and found a lot of tried and true coming through the designers look books and a lot of mixed bag type pieces as well. What I kept seeing a lot of and loving are the following 5 trends that will transition you to Fall and are timeless enough to last a lifetime. The timeless ones were seen in everything from basic to kicked up 10 notches with embellishment or different fabrics.

1- The skirt- tons and tons of skirt options but in general more than anything I saw more skirts than the past few years. The most widely seen is the mini flounce giving us a fun way to be flirtatious. It doesn’t have to be super mini, anywhere above the knee will work. I have been seeing these in every pattern and lots of leather which will bring us to # 2, but besides the mini flounce, every skirt length is hot right now including my least favorite the midi (hits right about at the mid calf), but i have learned this season that you can do the midi the right way even if you are petite, it just has to be the right shape for you and hit the right spot, so try this garment on before you buy.

2- Leather, leather, leather! It’s been back for the past few years but this year it is so strong. Every single piece can be found in leather or faux leather and it always gives an outfit a bit of glamour, edge and depth. Tops, jackets, skirts, pants, shorts, cullots and dresses- literally everything you can wear is making a debut in leather and it’s hot! Pair it with something casual like a looser T and some pumps and you are set.

3- Cobalt blue- not navy and not royal, this is the in between hue that is everywhere and happens to go well with some nice leather or pleather. It’s a rich color but not too bright, so it can incorporated easily with neutrals, black, white or contrast colors like red/bordeaux, orange and emerald. Spice things up with some fresh cobalt pieces, even a bag or shoes if you don’t want to make an outfit out of it.

4- Floral and prints in general are back but seeing them large instead of teeny and also top to bottom opposed to the past in one part of an outfit. This is not for petites like me but it’s there and gorgeous in full dresses, jumpsuits or a matching top and bottom in larger, bolder colorful prints.

5- The bootie is here to stay whether it’s basic, moto, high heeled, wedged or flat. The bootie is the perfect fall shoe since it’s so easy to pair with everything you already have in your closet from skinnies to trousers to dresses, skirts and shorts (yes I’ve seen this done and done well)! Bring them back out.. I have a feeling they are here to stay.

Go ahead and mix things up a little in this fabulous Fall transition season! Grab those mags and and see where you can find some of the new ways to incorporate what you have and buy the latest look! Have fun with your clothes in this most refreshing and exciting time of year!
