Fire & Police Clear Spilled Fuel on Fadem Road

Hazardous materials quickly contained.

Springfield fire fighters and police responded to a hazardous materials incident on Fadem Road late this morning. Emergency responders said that no one was injured in and the event did not pose an environmental threat.

A Springfield Fire Fighter told Patch a truck backing out of a driveway of a commercial building on Fadem Road hit a curb, puncturing the cab’s fuel tank. Building employees called 911 and also used buckets and other equipment to clear the area of gasoline.

Springfield Fire and the Union County Hazmat crew contained the spill with quick-drying sand while police blocked the road from traffic. A Springfield police officer said the road would be open by the afternoon.
