The Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield announces newest community service project: The Teen Closet.

The Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield (JLEP) announce the newest community service project, The Teen Closet. The Teen Closet is a girls empowerment initiative providing at-risk female students from local area high schools with a “Dress Write Starter Kit” of college essay and resume advice, and professional clothing.

Following on successful resume workshops in prior years, the Teen Closet held its inaugural College Essay Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 22, hosting 23 seniors and juniors from Rahway High School at the Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield Headquarters in Cranford. The teens enjoyed dinner, essay tips, one-on–one college essay editing and selected three key articles of clothing appropriate for college interviews and events, all packaged in a Teen Closet bag. More than 20 Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield volunteers donated time and resources to preparing and hosting the event.

“We are so pleased with the outcome of our first college essay editing event”, said Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield President, Josephine Ferrigno-Stack. “This is a critical time for students and a little help can send them in a positive direction for their future. We, at the Junior League of Elizabeth-Plainfield, are so happy to provide this valuable service to the girls. We had such a great response to our resume editing events in 2013 and 2014, it was a natural fit to expand our community service projects to college essay editing.”
