At least I Take Credit for What I Write and Don't Threaten Others
Responding to anonymous and threatening letter
Recently, I sent a letter to The Star-Ledger in support of Red Light cameras. I realize many people do not agree with me, but the freedom to disagree is supposedly what democracy is all about. However, I have a right to my opinion and don’t think I should be subjected to threats from people who hide behind their anonymity. I did not publish my home address or the name of my spouse in my letter, yet I received an anonymous letter in my home-mailed from Trenton--with no return address or name--in which the non-courageous writer said to say hi to my spouse, whom he or she named. The writer also said he or she would be watching our neighborhood--apparently ready to turn us in to local authorities for the slightest traffic infraction--guess trying to “get even” for my opinions on red light cameras. The writer also apparently believes, since the red light camera violations are issued to the owners of cars whose license plates are identified--and not necessarily the drivers--that the only red light violators are thieves who have stolen cars or “friends” who have borrowed cars only so they could drive through red lights, endanger the public and get others in trouble. Spurious “logic” at best. In any event, I am completely entitled to my opinion and will continue feel free to express it--and I will not hide behind anonymity. I only have responded to this anonymous letter in Patch because the writer is probably local to Springfield and the Ledger probably would not want to deal with such nonsense. Too bad some people cannot carry on intelligent discussions without having to stoop so low and and do not have the courage to sign their names.
