Let’s Get Stylin’!

Are you feeling a little blah and not quite ready for summer or the wardrobe that goes with it?  Not feeling like your old summer looks or colors are working for you?  Summer is truly the best season to try new things as far as fashion is concerned.  It’s the time where anything goes, so get out of your comfort zone, get rid of the old and get stylin’ with some new items to update your look.  Here are some great tips to get you started to finding your fashion-forward self once and for all!

-          COLOR!  Bring it on!  If you don’t think a lot of colors look good on you or you’re just too scared to try a new color, start off small.  You can play with color in so many ways.  It’s easy to incorporate color in accessories such as jewelry, hair, shoes, lightweight scarves and even sunglasses.  This season color is everywhere, and it is shown in every shade and depth.  I’m seeing sunglasses with splashes of mint, pinks and corals and the same goes for accessories across the board this season.  It really helps step up your look a notch and can brighten your day, to boot!

-          Shorts!  They’re not just for the kids.  Today, you can get a great fitting pair of shorts for any occasion.  It’s such a fun way to mix things up with all the new prints and colors.  Pick some up and throw on a neutral basic top and you’re set.  Printed, sequined, crocheted, metallic… so many options, but don’t forget in order to dress them up, throw on that heel or wedge and you’ll create the perfect look!  Added bonus, the right shorts can be worn transitioning to Fall, by adding some opaque tights.

-          This one, as many of you know, is one my all-time favorites- the maxi dress!  Seriously, it looks great on all shapes and sizes and it’s an easy put-together look (no need to match up a top and bottom)!  For a more casual look, pair it with flops and for a dressier look grab those wedges.

-          This next rule of thumb is not just for summer, it’s an all-year tip to keep in mind.  So many of my clients tell me they love the look of a longer length top, dress or even pant shown in stores, but they just don’t think it will look good on them.  Well, I am here to let you know, that is incorrect.  You can try longer or shorter hems, but make sure it’s hitting you in all the right places.  Take a good look in the mirror (or call Personal Styling By Maya), try on different lengths and just make sure you look proportioned and maybe even longer and leaner.  That’s what you’re aiming for.  I’m only 5 Ft short (if that!) and I love wearing longer tops.  I feel if they hit at the right place they can actually elongate your frame.  Where do I get longer tops for my frame?  I shop literally everywhere, but mostly end up with Junior options for the right lengths and trust me these days, they are not too young looking.  In fact, if you really needed to, you could buy kids clothes that look just like the adult versions as well!

Summer is a fun and carefree time of the year and your wardrobe should reflect that.  Have fun with your style and don’t be afraid to change things up.  Get out of your comfort zone little by little and pretty soon you will see how much fun you can have with your clothes and how good you feel!
