Living Biography Assignment Results in Real Life Correspondence
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor writes to thank Saint James the Apostle School seventh grader for her portrayal of Justice's life.

As part of a Living Biography Reading class assignment, Saint James the Apostle 7th grader Rianna Cordeiro, pictured in a judge’s robe holding a gavel, portrayed Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Sonia Sotomayor, and presented her life story to classmates and school visitors. Rianna was pleasantly surprised to receive a letter from Justice Sotomayor, after Sotomayor received a link to Rianna’s video presentation. Justice Sotomayor wrote to thank Rianna for choosing to read her memoir as a model for Rianna’s presentation. In addition to Sotomayor, Saint James the Apostle School was visited by some other notable people in history, including Benjamin Franklin, General George Patton, authors C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Mark Twain, Margaret Mitchell, Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie, and Mary Queen of Scots, to name a few, as the seventh graders brought these historical figures to life through their Living Biography presentations. Rianna, however, enjoyed the additional honor of receiving of letter of thanks and acknowledgement from the Associate Justice.
