Lunchtime Film Series At springfield Library

Springfield Free Public Library presents the second film in its "Banned Books in Film" series - Tuesday 9/2/14 at 1 pm.

Don’t miss the award-winning version of James Jones’ acclaimed novel set in Hawaii shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor, which brilliantly depicts the aspirations and tribulations of officers, soldiers, and others in their lives.  The film won the Best Picture academy award, and supporting actors Frank Sinatra and Donna Reed both won Oscars as well, along with director Fred Zinnemann.  The stellar cast also included Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, and Ernest Borgnine.  In honor of the Freedom to Read Foundation’s observance of Banned Books Week (Sep. 21-27), the library is showing film versions of literary classics that have been banned or challenged.  Admission is free.
