SELECTED 1940s CLASSICS - HITCHCOCK AND FILM NOIR
Don't miss Humphrey Bogart as Raymond Chandler's cynical private eye Philip Marlowe and Lauren Bacall as the skeptical older sister of a blackmail victim Marlow is hired to deal with, among other criminals along the way. It was one of the most famously baffling film noirs but also one of the most successful in sheer star power. William Faulkner was one of the screenwriters, and the film was directed by Howard Hawkes. 114 minutes.
Admission is free and light refreshements are served at 12:30 pm. Funding for the film program is made possible in part by the NJ State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, and by the Friends of the Springfield Public Library.
