Man Threw Rock, Shattered Business Window In Union: Police

The Hillside man may be linked to other shattered windows in the township as well, police report.

UNION, NJ — A Hillside man was charged after he was seen by police throwing a rock through a business' window in Union, police report.

Union Township Police Detectives reported noticing a sudden increase in broken windows on Morris Avenue within the last few weeks.

Through an investigation by Detective PJ Bradley and Patrol Officer Matthew Hayes they found a man in the area of the 2600 block of Morris Avenue that they thought was linked to the crime.

On Wednesday at about 10:20 p.m. Officer Chris Lensi saw the man throw a rock through the front window of a business on Morris Avenue, police report.

The double pane window glass measured about 7 feet by 12 feet, police report.

The man ran away and was caught by authorities following a short chase and arrested.

The 47-year-old resident of Hillside had mental health issues and after being criminally charged with the damage, was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric exam, police report.

The man matches the description of the person seen on video from prior crimes. The investigation is continuing.
