The New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board Provides Fire Safety Tips for a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season

The winter months are the most dangerous for residential fires. The New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board Provides the following tips.

The New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holidays! It is important to remember as we celebrate the holidays and the New Year that winter time is the most dangerous time for residential fires. The distractions of the holidays may increase the risk of fire in some cases. Please consider these five safety tips during the holiday season and into the winter months.

· Be aware of holiday hazards- Dry Christmas trees can easily accelerate a fire. Make sure that none of your Christmas tree light power cords are frayed and plug any decorations into a surge protector. Holiday candles should not be left unattended or near any flammable materials. Remember to keep candles out of reach from children and pets.

· Watch Your Space Heaters- Limit your use of Space heaters and never leave them unattended. Space heaters are very dangerous if not used properly, and need to be at least three feet away from anything that is combustible.
