October 19-25 is National Friends of Libraries Week

The Springfield Free Public Library recognizes October 19-25 as National Friends of Libraries Week

The Springfield Free Public Library celebrates the week of    October 19-25, 2014 as Friends of Libraries Week.  this recognition of the Springfield Friends group is part of the ninth annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.  The Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library were established in 1967 and have raised more than $350,000 for the library to date.  Currently over 120 community members contribute annually to the Friends and many contributors actively volunteer their time to assist the group with fundraising efforts that include the annual used Book Sale held every August and the Vintage ewelry Sale every October.

“The library has always played such an important role in my life and in my family’s life,” said Friends President William Holmes.  “I truly enjoy being able to give something back - and being an active member of this grop is fun!”  Other officers of the organization are Doris Ruff, Vera Stier, and Sally Rice.

“Our library would be much poorer without the Friends,” said Libray Director Dale Spindel.  “The funds they raise definitely put the icing on the cake.  I think most patrons would be surprised to learn how many of the services and programs they enjoy are supported by the Friends.”  Please contact the library at 973-376-4930 or check the library's web site or Facebook page to learn more about the Friends activities and to find out how to become a member of the Friends.
