The Springfield Roadrunners U14 Flight 2 boys' team defeated arch rivals the Rockaway Running Rebels for a second time this season by a score of 2-1 this past Sunday at Gaudineer.
Springfield (4W 2L 1T) struck first with a goal by forward Asmar Johnson less than 10 minutes into the match. The "fearsome foursome" defensive tandem of Patrick Zahn, Arrington Joyner-Corniffe, Andrew Maldenado and Noah Guber kept Rockaway off the scoreboard throughout the match. Johnson put a second goal in halfway through the second half, sealing the fate for the Rebels.
Then a last minute corner kick goal by Rockaway made for an exciting conclusion.
