The Springfield Roadrunners' U14 Boys team were victorious this past Sunday over the Summit Swampdragons by a score of 3 to 2 at Gaudineer Middle School.
The match was scoreless after the first half. The Roadrunners, (5W 2L 1T) fought hard during the second half, taking 16 shots, allowing only five. Danny Micolta opened the scoring. Later on, Asmar Johnson put Springfield ahead by 2 with a penalty shot. Summit answered with a penalty shot of their own several minutes later. Putting Springfield ahead to stay was a 40 foot direct kick by midfielder Yosuf Salomon.
Summit scored with one minute remaining making for an exciting conclusion to the match. Andrew Maldenado filled in admirably at the goaltender position for the injured Ethan Siegel making four saves. The defensive tandem of Stephano Gonzaga, Patrick Zahn, Noah Guber, & Arrington Joyner-Corniffe kept the Swampdragons in check.

The Roadrunners travel to Clifton to play the Stallions Stampede next Sunday at 1:00 to avenge a 2-2 tie from earlier this season. At press time, Springfield was in a four team race to win the flight with two games remaining.
