Reference NJ.COM/Star Ledger article by Richard Khavkine, dated March 6, 2011 paragraphs 23-25. While our FD was short staffed per OHSA and NFPA standards during the approx years 2007-2011 Our Mayor at the time stated there was no safety risk to our residents due to short staffing (and he was correct!). Not only was there not one FF or civilian death or injury due to staffing during this time frame, our insurance rates did not increase. If there was a time it would have, this would have been it. We saw no insurance increase period. Part-time paid solves any future perceived insurance increase by staffing full time around the clock with FF's that are trained to the same level as our current paid FF's. There would be no response delay nor staffing problem.
