Springfield To Hold Memorial For 15th Anniversary of 9/11

Springfield will host a memorial service marking the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, particularly two Springfield residents who lost their lives.

The memorial will begin at 8:30 AM in front of Town Hall (100 Mountain Ave). The bell outside will be rung twice, at 8:46 AM and 9:03 AM, to symbolize the times the two planes struck the World Trade Center buildings. Mayor Fernandez will read a proclamation honoring those who lost their lives at 9:30 AM.

Two Springfield residents will be remembered at the ceremony. Lee Adler and JoAnn L. Heltibridle were both working in the Towers the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, as Patch previously reported.

Adler, 48, was a systems programmer for a division of Cantor Fitzgerald called eSpeed. He was active in the community, coaching basketball, soccer and softball for his daughter, as well as serving as a trustee for Temple Beth Ahm, according to an obituary.

Heltibridle, 46, was a Vice President for Marsh & McLennan, working on the 94th floor. She is remembered as a determined businesswoman with a soft spot for her family and two cats. Both cats now live with Heltibridle's mother in her Maryland hometown.
