Springfield Police Catch Teen Driving a Stolen Car With No License

Officer Robert Bertucci was running radar on Route 22 West and
stopped a motor vehicle for traveling 67 MPH in a 45 MPH zone. As the
car's license plate was called into police HQ's it was found that the red
2006 Ford SUV was a stolen vehicle that was reported stolen from North
Plainfield the week before.

The driver, Jade Sanders, age 18, of Plainfield, could not exhibit any ID as she claimed she had left her wallet with her NJ driver license at home. She further claimed that the vehicle belonged to her friend but the name of the friend did not match the name of the registered owner.

The North Plainfield Police Department confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen the prior week when the owner left the vehicle running in front of the owner's residence. The driver and two passengers, Yasmin Lee, age 20, and Jaliyah Young, age 18, and both of Plainfield were all arrested for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle. It was later found out at police HQ's that the claim to have left her driver license at home and the verbal identity information that Sanders supplied were both false as she had no NJ driver license and she verbally used a false name when arrested.

Sanders was further charged with Hindering Her Own Apprehension. All three were released with an initial court appearance in Union County Superior Court.
