Springfield School Crossing Guards Restructured

Beginning Jan. 2, 2018 the Springfield Police Department has restructured where crossing guards are located. Check out their new posts.

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Crossing guards have been restructured for 2018 by the Springfield Police Department to ensure available guards are utilized in the most efficient and effective way possible.

The restructure will take effect Jan. 2, 2018.

The following are the locations where crossing guards will be posted:

  • Keeler St.
  • Morris Ave. / Caldwell Pl.
  • Caldwell Pl. / Brook St.
  • Caldwell Pl. at Caldwell School
  • Linden Ave. / Wabeno Ave.
  • Meisel Ave. / Wabeno Ave.
  • Morris Ave. / Maple Ave.
  • Mountain Ave. / Henshaw Ave.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Shunpike Rd.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Milltown Rd.
  • Meisel Ave. / Milltown Rd.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Meisel Ave.
  • Mountain Ave. / Shunpike Rd.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Hillside Ave.
  • Mountain Ave. / Hillside Ave.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Evergreen Ave.
  • Mountain Ave. / Wabeno Ave.

In addition, police officers will continue to provide traffic direction and pedestrian assistance at the High School, Gaudineer School, Sandmeier School and Walton School in the mornings; and High School, Sandmeier School and Walton School in the afternoons.

Crossing guards will no longer be posted at the following locations:

  • Wabeno Ave. mid-block - pedestrians should proceed to either the intersection of Mountain Ave. / Wabeno Ave. or Linden Ave. / Wabeno Ave. to cross where crossing guards will be posted.
  • Morris Ave. / Short Hills Ave. - pedestrians should follow the traffic signals to cross safely at the appropriate times or proceed on Morris Ave to Caldwell Place and cross where guards will be posted.
  • South Springfield Ave. / Jade Meadow Dr. - pedestrians should proceed to the school crosswalk where the police officer is posted (at South Springfield Ave. / Linda Ln.). The police officer is posted there to direct traffic and assist with pedestrian crossings.

Parents and students are asked to review the changes for the new year, according to Springfield Schools.
