Springfield Schools Will Close Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, NJ — Springfield Public Schools have changed their status to closed for Wednesday due to the impending snow storm.

The status was changed from an early dismissal annoumced earlier on Tuesday.

"In preparing for the impending weather issues, I have taken many factors into consideration. The previous storm’s impact on Springfield was significant since it left the majority of the town without power. As such, schools were closed and it impacted our school calendar. We have no days to give back and will need to venture into 'spring break' to make up days," said Superintendent Michael Davino.

Union County College and Kean University are closed on Wednesday.

As many as 18 inches of heavy, wet snow could fall, creating the potential for power outages across the state. The double-wave storm, the fourth possible nor'easter to hit New Jersey in three weeks, could be a "long-duration event" packing 45 mph winds. The bulk of the storm is expected to come in two waves, especially on Wednesday, and could extend the nor'easter to a 36-hour system.
