Stolen Smartphone Saves the Day, Police Say

Cell phone stolen from Springfield office helps authorities find it.

A woman who works in Springfield had her smartphone stolen from her workplace, but authorities were able to recover it quickly—thanks to the device itself, NJ.com reported.

Denville Police responded last Wednesday to Diamond Spring Road to investigate the the theft of an iPhone. Reportedly the phone's owner used the device's own GPS capability to track its location, and when officers arrived at the scene, they found two women who allegedly swiped the phone from the victim's office while pretending to be as solicitors, two men accompanying them and the purloined phone, the article said.

Police said Darius J. Tomlin of Blakeslee, Penn., was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. Jefferson Police, also on the scene,  detained one of the women, ultimately charging her with theft. She was not identified.
