The Springfield fire department and police have blocked off a large section of Mountain Ave. after a power line fell into the road.
No one was hurt in the incident. It is not known what caused the wire to fall—it was a high hanging line, and very unlikely to be hit by a vehicle. Initial reports that there was a transformer fire were likely due to the live wire hitting tree branches as it fell, Captain James Anagnos of the Springfield Fire Department said.

Work crews from Jersey Central Light and Power arrived at the site around 1 p.m. As they repair the line, most of Mountain Ave.—from Shunpike Road to Hillside Ave.—will have its power out, as well as streets off of Mountain Ave. Speaking shortly after 1 p.m., Anagnos estimated that the power would be out for about an hour.
The Springfield Fire Department plans on opening a single lane of traffic on Mountain Ave. this afternoon.
