Submitted by the Union County Prosector’s Office:
Through a day of golf at Suburban Golf Club in Union Township and an evening fundraiser that followed, this past Monday the Union County Crime Stoppers celebrated its 30th anniversary by honoring the life and achievements of late Union County Sheriff Ralph Froehlich.
Anthony Rinaldo served as chairman and master of ceremonies of the event, which was
attended by more than 150 people – including Mrs. Marlene Froehlich, the Sheriff’s wife, and their children. Mrs. Froehlich was given an engraved plaque in remembrance of the event.

Former Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow also presented a plaque on behalf of Crime Stoppers to acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park in memory of Sheriff
Froehlich. In addition, the John H. Stamler Police Academy in Scotch Plains announced that it will present in each future graduating class a specially engraved “Ralph Froehlich Leadership Award” to a recruit demonstrating exceptional leadership while training to become a police officer.
“Sheriff Froehlich will be remembered as a servant of the people, having served as a Marine, an Elizabeth Police officer for 20 years, and as Sheriff of Union County for over 33 years,” Romankow said. “He was an icon and a ‘lion of law enforcement in New Jersey.’”

“We are privileged to honor the memory of Sheriff Froehlich, whose dedication to law
enforcement in Union County was unmatched in more than five decades of public service,”
added Park, who accepted her plaque on behalf of the more than 1,700 sworn law enforcement officers currently serving in Union County. “Also, we could not be more pleased with the enduring cooperative relationship between the Prosecutor’s Office and Union County Crime Stoppers.
For 30 years now, they have been a true ally and a helping hand in our mission to root
out crime and keep our neighborhoods safe.”
“Sheriff Froehlich dedicated many years to Crime Stoppers, and would often note that ‘Crime Stoppers is an important vehicle for the citizen public to work with the police without fear of reprisal. The organization is an invaluable resource for law enforcement,’” acting Union County Sheriff Joseph Cryan recalled.
“Ralph’s belief in the work and dedication of Crime Stoppers volunteers was evident by his many television appearances highlighting our most wanted fugitives using the Crime Stoppers number – 908-654-TIPS (8477) – to let the public know how to inform police anonymously. All of us in the Sheriff’s Office want to thank Crime Stoppers for their incredible work through the years and kindness in remembering the sheriff at their 30th anniversary.”
