$200K In Grants Awarded To Summit's Reeves-Reed Arboretum
The 13.5 acre, non-profit garden has received significant funding to maintain its facilities this year.
SUMMIT, NJ — Over the course of 2022, Summit's Reeves-Reed Arboretum has received more than $200,000 in grants.
The recent funding includes $175K from the Mary Reinhart Stackhouse Foundation for general operating costs, $15K from the E.J. Grassmann Trust for masonry repairs, and $13.7K from the Union Foundation for air conditioning for the Stackhouse Education Center.
In addition, the arboretum received $10K from the Hyde and Watson Foundation for costs relating to facility renovations and $2.5K from the Union County History Grant Program for the development of Discovery Boxes — an educational tool highlighting Lenape Living.

These boxes will contain Lenape artifacts, learning games, tales to read aloud, books and photographs, according to the arboretum.
The non-profit public garden is a 13.5-acre estate located in Summit and is listed on both the National and State Registers of Historic Places.

It is open 365 days a year, free of charge and welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually.
"The grants awarded to Reeves-Reed Arboretum make it possible for us to continue our mission of engaging, educating and enriching our visitors so they become better stewards of nature and the environment," said Jackie Kondel, Executive Director of Reeves-Reed Arboretum.
"We are extremely grateful for the continued support from the following foundations that enable us to maintain the gardens, grounds, and historic structures, as well as our educational efforts in environmental science and history. Our goal is to motivate our public to continually care about the environment and nature, and actively care for it. The trust and belief in our cause inspires our staff every day to be determined and productive, and for that we are deeply grateful," Kondel said.
