$30K Worth Of Jewelry Stolen From Summit Home

Multiple stolen cars, burglaries to vehicles and thefts were also reported. 2 Summit locals were also arrested for DWI and assault: Police

SUMMIT, NJ — A total of $30,000 worth of jewelry was reportedly stolen from a Myrtle Avenue home in Summit, police report.

On Dec. 11 at 7:39 p.m., the victim reported the following items were discovered missing at approximately 9 a.m. on Dec. 9. Taken from the residence were two gold rings, one diamond ring, one diamond necklace, one diamond bracelet, one Tiffany watch, one Tiffany ring, one 18-karat bracelet, one 14-karat diamond ring with six diamonds, one pair of diamond earrings, one gold 10-karat necklace with family pictures on it, one gold 14-karat necklace with a gold band on the chain.

The incident occurred between July 27 and Dec. 9. Total value of the stolen items is approximately $30,000, police reported.

On Dec. 10 At 6:59 am.: A report was taken for a theft of a wallet from a parked motor vehicle on Orchard Street. The victim reported the incident occurred between 6:25 and 6:59 a.m. while the victim was shoveling snow in the driveway. Taken from the vehicle was one black wallet containing numerous personal items (driver’s license, credit cards, firearms identification card, New Jersey State PBA Cards) and approximately $260 in cash. Total value of the stolen items was approximately $305.

On Dec. 10 at 7:42 a.m.: A report was taken for a stolen motor vehicle from a driveway on Middle Avenue. The incident occurred between 1 and 4 a.m. Taken from the residence was a 2009 Nissan Altima, left unsecured with the key inside. The vehicle was recovered at approximately 7:39 a.m. hours in Newark by the Newark Police Department. Total value of the vehicle was approximately $16,000.

On Dec. 10 at 12:51 p.m.: A report was taken for a theft from a motor vehicle on Orchard Street. The victim reported the incident occurred between the overnight hours of Dec. 9 to approximately 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 10. Taken from the unsecured vehicle was approximately $1 in change.

On Dec. 11: Christopher P. Diorio, 32, of Union was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking. Diorio was released with a pending court date.

On Dec. 11 at 8:43 a.m.: A report was taken for a theft of a motor vehicle from an apartment complex on Weaver Street. Taken between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Dec. 11 was a 2008 White Ford Pickup Truck with a 7 ½ foot Boss Snowplow (red in color) and a Western Salt Spreader (color red). Officers located a small ignition ring in the area of where the vehicle had been parked, secured, in the overnight hours. Total value of the vehicle is approximately $4,000.

On Dec. 14 at 2:06 p.m.: A report was taken for a theft from a resident’s room at a facility on Springfield Avenue. Taken between Nov. 18 and Dec. 2 were one silver engagement ring with a 1-karat diamond, one gold wedding band and a brown wallet containing a social security card and insurance card. Total value of the stolen items was approximately $1,500.

On Dec. 17: Taurino Alday Benitez, 28, of Summit was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. Alday Benitez was released with a pending court date.

On Dec. 20 at 11:56 p.m.: A report was taken for a stolen laptop and laptop bag from a business on Beechwood Road. The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. on the same date. The victim stated the black, over-the-shoulder style Targus laptop case contained one black/dark gray Dell laptop, one Dell laptop charging cord and one iPhone charging cord. Total value for the stolen items was approximately $949.

On Dec. 22 at 10:49 p.m.: A report was taken for a theft of personal belongings from the YMCA. The incident occurred between 7 and 8:30 p.m. on the same date. Taken from an unsecured locker in the men’s locker room were eight credit cards, a New Jersey Driver’s License, approximately $60 in cash and a black iPhone 5 in a black protective case. Total value of the stolen items was approximately $500.

On Dec. 26: Jose F. Mencia, 43, of Roselle Park was arrested for several contempt of court warrants out of Montville and Roselle Park, as well as a warrant out of Hudson County for failure to pay child support. Mencia was processed and transported to the Hudson County Jail where custody was turned over to the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department.

On Dec. 27: Dylan E. Borst, 29, of Kansas City, Missouri was arrested and charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of paraphernalia. Borst was released with a pending court date.

On Dec. 28: Xuean Liu, 67, of Summit was arrested and charged with simple assault. Liu was released with a pending court date.
