1. Becoming An EMT Now More Convenient For Summit Residents (patch.com) — Summit residents interested in becoming EMTs now have a more convenient path, as the Summit Volunteer First Aid Squad will host year-round certification courses right at its headquarters. A new partnership with Less Stress Instructional Services aims to reduce travel and scheduling barriers, strengthen the pipeline of trained EMTs, and bolster the volunteer squad that serves Summit in emergencies. Specific course start dates will be announced later.
2. AI Data Center Ban Heads To Final Vote In Summit (patch.com) — Summit officials are poised to vote on an ordinance that would explicitly ban large AI data centers from operating anywhere in the city, with a final public hearing set for Tuesday. Council members and residents are debating how broadly to define these facilities, especially around a 20‑megawatt power threshold, and Tuesday’s meeting is residents’ last chance to weigh in before a decision is made.
3. Native American photographer Will Wilson documents the present and wrestles with the past in VACNJ show (njarts.net) — A major photography exhibition at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit showcases Native American photographer Will Wilson’s powerful portraits alongside historic images by Edward Curtis. The show explores how wet‑plate techniques, light, and storytelling can both challenge and echo earlier depictions of Native Americans, and it’s on view in Summit through August 23 for local art lovers to experience.
4. Final N.J. Boys Tennis Top 20 for 2026: Titles, depth and tough calls define list (nj.com subscription) — Summit High’s boys tennis team capped an 18-2 season, sweeping most Union County flights to win its first county title since 2021 and going unbeaten against county opponents. The Hilltoppers reached the North 2, Group 3 quarterfinals before a tight loss to Ridge, with all five positions qualifying for state singles and doubles tournaments.
5. Freshman assemblyman says he'll likely pass on Bramnick challenge (newjerseyglobe.com) — Summit residents may soon see more of Sen. Jon Bramnick, who’s gearing up for a 2027 re-election bid and has a June 23 town hall scheduled at the Elks Hall in town. Freshman Assemblyman Vinnie Kearney, whose running mate Andrew Macurdy hails from Summit, says he’s unlikely to challenge Bramnick, preferring to focus on Assembly work and bipartisan legislation.
