SUMMIT, NJ — A flood watch is in effect for Summit and surrounding areas from Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning, according to a local alert issued Monday.
Forecasters say showers and thunderstorms moving through the region may bring periods of heavy rainfall, with one to two inches of rain possible.
The potential for heavy downpours could lead to flooding in low-lying and flood-prone locations due to excessive runoff.
Residents are being advised to limit unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain when possible and to use caution while driving. Motorists are also reminded not to drive or walk through flooded roadways.
Additional flood safety information is available through the New Jersey State Police Office of Emergency Management.
