Like To Argue? Summit Debate Team Wants You
Team members, coaches, and parents will host an Information Meeting for all prospective participants.

SUMMIT, NJ - The Summit High School Speech and Debate Team is offering an information meetings for any student interested in joining the team for the 2019-20 season.
On Tuesday, May 28, SHS team members, coaches, and parents, will host an Information Meeting for all prospective team members and their parents from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the SHS Library.
SHS competitors will present short performances of each event, explain how tournaments work, and the coaches will discuss expectations for team membership. SHS team parents will also be in attendance to answer questions.

Speech and Debate competitors study and discuss public policy, current events, and literature. They meet students from diverse religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds which increases their commitment to social justice and empathy for "the other."
Statistics prove that participation in competitive speech and debate improves classroom performance and test scores; raises self-confidence, poise, and public speaking skills; and develops critical thinking, analysis, and research skills.
