SUMMIT, NJ - Former Summit school teacher Elizabeth Meola Aaron is coming home to the district, as the Summit Board of Education is poised to approve Aaron as Assistant Principal of Summit High School.

“Her high level of high school experience and leadership qualities are evident. She was a Summit alumnus and a Summit staff member, and it is great to have her coming home,” said Superintendent June Chang.

Aaron has extensive experience in the high school setting as both an educator and an administrator, according Chang. She taught for four years at Asbury Park High School and for seven years at Summit High School. Following that, she worked for the South Orange-Maplewood School District as a high school administrator including principal for the past five years, most recently working at the district level on research and strategic planning for instructional innovation and integration.

In her leadership positions, Aaron continually assessed the needs of her school community and focused on strengthening students’ voice and engagement, Chang said. Aaron developed programs to provide acute support aligned with student needs, and she encouraged opportunities for students and staff to engage with outside community partners.

Aaron has been part of numerous professional development opportunities where
she collaborated with supervisors to widen student experiences both in and out of school, deepening avenues for students to do internships, service learning, and career and college pathway exploration, Chang said.

Aaron earned a bachelor degree in in History and Secondary Education from Boston College, as well as an master of arts in Teaching History from Rutgers-Newark and an mater of arts in Educational Leadership from Kean University.
