JLS Starts the Year in a Big Way

The Junior League of Summit kicked off the official start of the new League year Tuesday night at our September General Membership meeting, with new president Colleen Markley presiding. Exciting developments for the new year were presented, including:

  •     plans for our upcoming Thanksgiving food drive
  •     several new community-driven task forces
  •     our new social media campaign
  •     the unveiling of our newly designed website

Although this was the official start of the Junior League year, the JLS was very busy over the summer and members were reminded of everything the organization had already accomplished via an entertaining presentation. Among the accomplishments included providing and packing 1,000 lunches for the homeless (through Bridges Outreach), a Back to School event for the Thrift Shop and a wine and cheese social event for new and transferring members.

The evening of philanthropy and fun culminated with a Done in A Meeting service project. Members stuffed dozens of backpacks with notebooks,  bookmarks, crayons, colored pencils, and a voucher for the JLS Thrift Shop. We then shipped them off to Family Promise, an organization that helps homeless and low-income families get back on their feet.

"Having so many intelligent, motivated, civic-minded women in one room…amazing things can and do happen!" commented Markley. "It's such a privilege to lead these incredible women as we make a difference in our community and the world."
