Blueberry Pie Takes First Place In Summit. Get The Recipe
The Summit Farmers Market has crowned a winner in the 2019 Berry Pie Contest.

SUMMIT, NJ – Eight bakers entered but only one was victorious in the Summit Downtown, Inc. (SDI) Sunday Funday at the Summit Farmers Market last Sunday.
Judges Amy Currie, Jeff Hunter, and Beth Little were challenged to rate each pie in the Berry Pie Contest on its crust, filling and appearance. Amy Currie is a seasoned food stylist, recipe developer, and culinary producer. Jeff Hunter is the pastry chef at Winberie’s, and Beth Little is a SDI Trustee and Summit Common Council member.
Paige Schleimer was awarded first prize for her Blueberry Pie accompanied by her homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Schleimer said she loves baking and is a local resident. Second Place was given to Mary Vincento for her Triple Berry Crumble Pie and Bill Hornbake’s Raspberry Sour Cream Pie was awarded third prize.

There will be two other Sunday Funday Contests during the season: The Annual Apple Pie Contest on Sunday, Sept. 29 and the Pumpkin Bread/Muffin Contest on Sunday, Nov. 10.

The market is run by Summit Downtown, Inc. and is located in Park & Shop Lot #2, at the corner of DeForest Avenue and Maple Street. The market is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday, rain or shine, through Nov. 24.
