Keep your hair curly the second day
Happy New Year! I hope 2013 is filled with peace, prosperity and beautiful hair for you and yours.
As a curly hair specialist, clients often ask me for information on how they can extend their curls for a second day without rewetting them the next morning. The answer to preventing bed head is easier than you may think!
If going to bed with dry hair:

- Plan ahead and use twice the amount of product in your hair that morning. Try not to break up curls or touch hair too often during the day.
- If hair is long enough, put hair up in a loose ponytail on top of head for sleeping. Use a large, silk-type fabric covered hair tie, and NOT an elastic tie.
- Consider sleeping with silk pillowcase. This will help to keep curls from frizzing.
- Protect hair when taking a shower and use a shower cap.
- If you wake up and the underside of your hair looks great but the top looks questionable, consider styling your hair in half up/half down look. Hoop earrings would accentuate this look as well.
If going to bed with wet hair:
- Reconsider. It is difficult to get good looking curls the next morning when you go to bed with a wet head!
- If you have to go to bed with wet hair, consider diffusing it partially to minimize frizz.
- Sleep with a smooth towel over your silk pillowcase. This will help to absorb the water from your hair and help reduce frizz.
- Sleep with it in a loose ponytail or braid on top of your head. Bind using a large, silk-type fabric covered hair tie as mention above.
By following these few, simple steps, you should be able to prolong the life of your curls. But as with any approach to managing curls, an expert cut is essential to looking good. Come see me at the salon to get your curls in shape for the new year. Salon Studio in Bernardsville 908-696-0060
