She has spoken at Old Guard most recently in 2024 and will return to tell us of Red, White and Blue birds, their color origin based on Indian folklore, and the land at the time of the Revolutionary War.
The Summit Area Old Guard is a social, educational, and recreational fellowship of active men of retirement age, founded in 1930. We hear presentations most Tuesday mornings in an auditorium in New Providence, and we have many other activities including discussion groups, sports and outdoor groups, and celebrations. The celebration will begin at noon with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by a decorated bicycle parade for children at 12:15 p.m. Concerts and entertainment will begin at 1 p.m., with programming continuing throughout the afternoon and evening.
The event will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 9:15 p.m.
The walking track, playground, tennis courts, and lower fields at Memorial Field will close at 1 p.m. in preparation for the fireworks. Roads surrounding the field will close to vehicle traffic at 6 p.m. Parking in the Ashland Road lot next to the tennis courts will be closed all day. Handicapped parking will be available at the intersection of Watchung Place and Tulip Street.
