Car Slides On Black Ice, Ambulance Driver Struck In Summit
A car coming down an I-78 exit ramp in Summit slipped on black ice causing her to slide into the ambulance with a patient on board.

SUMMIT, NJ — An ambulance and its driver were both hit after a car slid on black ice early Monday morning in Summit.
A Robert Wood Johnson ambulance was driving at 3:27 a.m. on I-78 eastbound transporting a patient on board with non-life threatening injuries when it slipped on black ice on the exit 45 ramp towards Glenside Avenue in Summit, New Jersey State Police Lt. Theodore Schafer told Patch.
The ambulance slid onto the side of the ramp causing the emergency driver to get out and check to make sure there was no damage, Schafer said.

While outside of the ambulance, a Lexus coming down the ramp also slipped on the black ice causing her to slide into the back of the ambulance. The force of impact caused the ambulance to hit the driver and knock him to the ground, Schafer said.
Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The Lexus was towed from the scene and the driver was transported by Summit EMS to an area hospital.
The ramp was closed down until a salt truck was able to come and salt the roadway due to icy conditions.
