Council to Vote on Aquatic Center, Muni Rate Increase Tuesday

Plus: Council will discuss a request from the school district for use of parking spaces in the K-lot.

Common Council will hold a public hearing and vote on membership fee increases at the Family Aquatic Center and the Municipal Golf Course Tuesday night.

Director of the Judith Josephs proposed an ordinance in December that puts all membership fees and usage charges into one ordinance.

There are several proposed changes to the membership categories and fees at the  including the elimination of several categories.

"If registration for 2011 remains at the 2010 levels," Josephs said, "we could realize an additional $15,000 - $20,000 increase in revenue."

At the , Josephs is proposing a $1 increase in green fees per round and $15 increase in membership fees per category.

Muni fees have not been changed since 2007 and Josephs said in the memo to council that a study of both Millburn's and Scotch Plains' courses indicates that Summit's rate were equal or less in membership or green fees but the quality of programming was determined to be better.

"If memberships for 2011 remains at 2010 levels, we could realize an additional
$30,000 in revenue," Josephs said in the memo. "If Greens Fees for 2010 remain at the 2010 levels, we could realize an additional $15,000 - $17,000 in revenue."

A resident adult membership would now be $50, a junior membership for those aged six to 17 would be $40 and a senior citizen membership would now be $40.

Council is also going to discuss a request from the Board of Education to use several parking spaces in the city's K-lot for faculty and staff parking at Lincoln-Hubbard School.

Limited staff and faculty parking has been one of the issues in a discussion about the drop-off/pick-up of students at the school lately. The Lincoln-Hubbard Site Development Plan Committee proposed constructing a new parking lot with 18 spaces off of McGregor Road. However at a in January, parents and neighbors alike were vehemently opposed to this plan.

Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. at city hall Tuesday night.
