Credit Card Theft, Fraud Tops $8,000: Summit Police

Four separate theft arrests were made on the same day in Summit.

SUMMIT, NJ - Unauthorized Apple store purchases totaling over $8,300 brought the Summit Police out to investigate credit card theft on Sept. 25. Police said a secured locker at a business on Maple Street was broken into and credit cards were taken from a wallet it contained. The victim received text message alerts from two separate credit card companies advising a total of $8,314.62 had been charged at an Apple store, police said.

In other police news:

  • On Oct. 3 Zhaire Mary, 19, of Elizabeth was arrested and charged with theft of credit cards, police said. Mary was processed and custody subsequently turned over to Roseland Police Department.
  • On Oct. 3 Amir Laury, 19, of Elizabeth was arrested and charged with theft of credit cards, hindering apprehension and burglary, police said. Laury was processed and custody subsequently turned over to Roseland Police Department.
  • On Oct. 3 Shawn D. Hurd, 19, of Elizabeth was arrested and charged with theft of credit cards and two contempt of court warrants from Newark, police said. Hurd was processed and custody subsequently turned over to Roseland Police Department.
  • On Oct. 3 Angel T. Melendez, 21, of Elizabeth was arrested and charged with theft of credit cards, police said. Melendez was processed and custody subsequently turned over to Roseland Police Department.
