The Summit Free Public Library and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey announce an exhibition of watercolors by Eric M. Bienstock & Jane S. Barrow in The Gallery at the Summit Free Public Library.
Eric M. Bienstock, Ph.D. & Jane S. Barrow, C.S.W., Millburn residents, are husband and wife watercolorists. Twenty-eight of their paintings will be on display in an exhibit they have titled Country Views, inspired by the scenery of upstate New York where they vacation. Eric and Jane have been painting in watercolor together for about fifteen years. As students of Nancy Korde at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey in Summit, they have developed their own personal styles. Eric prefers landscapes with old buildings, roads and lakes; Jane leans towards a more impressionistic interpretation of skies, land and water. They have even painted a piece jointly, which Jane started and Eric finished.
Neither Eric nor Jane has any formal training in art, having started out as rank beginners in Nancy Korde's watercolor class. According to Eric, "If I can learn to paint, despite my color blindness and inability to draw a straight line without a ruler, anyone can!" Eric teaches Critical Thinking and Mathematics at the college level; Jane is a psychotherapist in private practice.
