Art Exhibit: Paintings by Barbara McElheny

The Summit Free Public Library and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey announce an exhibition of paintings by Barbara McElheny in The Gallery at the Summit Free Public Library.

Barbara McElheny was first introduced to oil painting at age 14 as a student at the Brooklyn Museum of Art.  She later went on to earning her BFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and her MS in Early and Elementary Education.  She has participated in group shows at the Montclair Art Museum Yard School, and the Visual Arts Center in Summit and Snug Harbor Art Lab.  Barbara's "Farm" painting received a Merit award in the Visual Arts Member's Show of 2010. She is a member of art studio programs in Summit and Rahway.

For Barbara, drawing and painting from life experiences provide an opportunity to study forms, color and design.  As an artist she explores combinations that construct the image, building upon values of color to evoke a sense of peace and harmony.

Barbara currently teaches in Westfield, New Jersey.  Having studied both art and teaching young children provides a rich foundation for viewing life through a creative lens.  She says of her work: “The landscape provides a particular beauty by its offering of history and design. I look to discover tones found in nature under divers forms of reality and make it my own artistic expression.”

The exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours.  THE GALLERY is a public-private partnership.
