Blues Day
The Summit Free Public Library and the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey announce an exhibition of photographs by Branch Watkins in THE GALLERY at the Summit Free Public Library, April 2 through May 31, 2012.
“Blues Day” is an exhibit of 15 photographs taken in Clarksdale, Mississippi—known as the cradle of Mississippi Delta Blues—on November 22, 2009. Clarksdale was the home of musicians such as W. C. Handy, Robert Johnson, Son House and others who developed and refined the Delta Blues musical genre. The images in this exhibit present a gritty and sometimes surreal view of Clarksdale on a rainy day along with interior shots of a blues guitar player at a local jook (juke) joint.

Branch Watkins started with digital photography soon after desktop scanners became available. The scanner was his first digital camera. The capabilities of this high-resolution tool heightened his interest in close-up and abstract images. The scanner has been supplemented with a digital camera and Photoshop 4.0 has given way to cs5 but delight in creating unusual images continues. Branch is an experienced Photoshop user, fine art exhibitor and instructor. He is a volunteer “wizard” supporting the New Jersey Media Center and a member of the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey faculty & student advisory panel.
