The annual “Paint Your Pain” Exhibition and Opening Reception at Overlook Medical Center’s Pain Management Center promises to be an eye-opening event!
The Pain Management Center at the Atlantic Neuroscience Institute believes that through art, patients can better cope with their symptoms, stress and experiences as well as can help express emotions about their pain and lives to others. Overlook Medical Center staff and volunteers will celebrate the work of those affected by pain – patients, family members, and healthcare providers – in hopes of teaching others about their experiences and the benefits of art therapy.
"Every picture has a story. And not everyone has the same idea of pain," says Olivia Joy Domingo, a pain management nurse at Overlook Medical Center who organizes the show each year. "We started this program because we realize there isn’t just the physical aspects of pain."
