Fallen Firefighters Honored In Summit Sunday

A moment of remembrance is scheduled as first responders participate in Bells Across America.

SUMMIT, NJ - Bells will ring coast to coast on Sunday morning and the clarion call will be joined by Summit as the Fire Department is participating in Bells Across America. Bells will ring to start the memorial ceremony as the nation pauses to honor fallen firefighters.

The ringing at 10 a.m. will be followed by a moment of remembrance to honor the 103 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2017.

“The Fire Department is organizing local houses of worship in Summit to join communities across the nation to ring bells in unison in tribute to fallen firefighters,” said Summit Fire Chief Eric Evers. “We are thankful for the religious and spiritual leaders in our community that will participate in a moment of remembrance to honor our brothers and sisters who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
