Home for the Holidays: Discovering Linda's Creative Gifts in New Providence
2026 Holiday Series Supporting Local Businesses
As the holiday season approaches, many of us will find ourselves searching for that perfect gift. We'll scroll through websites, browse the big-box stores, and maybe even spend a little too much time adding things to our Amazon carts.
This holiday season, we are taking a closer look at the small businesses that make our New Jersey communities so special. Behind every storefront is a story, a hardworking business owner, and often a whole network of people who benefit when we choose to shop locally.
And we're starting in New Providence with a shop that truly embraces the meaning of supporting local.

Owner Linda Tribuna is a self-taught artist who spent years selling her own creations at street fairs and vendor shows. In 2009, she decided to take that passion one step further and open a storefront. Not just to showcase her own work, but to give other local artists a place to share theirs.
According to Linda, hers was the first store in the area dedicated to providing this kind of opportunity for artists.
Today, approximately 80% of the merchandise in her store is handmade, with items created by local artists, American makers, and artists with developmental disabilities.
Many of the gifts are one-of-a-kind, and some can even be personalized.
In a world where so much of what we purchase is mass-produced, there's something special about giving a gift that someone actually took the time to create.
Gifts With a Story Behind Them
One of the things that makes Linda's Creative Gifts different is that the merchandise isn't simply selected from a catalog.
Many of the pieces are created by independent artists who pour their time, talent, and creativity into their work.
During the holidays, those artists bring in new creations, including seasonal items and unique gifts for friends and family. And because so many of the items are handmade, shoppers have an opportunity to find something they may not see anywhere else.
Linda is also an artist herself, something that surprises many of her customers.
"When I show customers my work, they are shocked I drew the pictures and created the watercolors too!" she shared.
It's a reminder that sometimes the person behind the counter has a pretty interesting story of their own.
Supporting More Than Just a Storefront
Perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of Linda's business is her commitment to creating opportunities for others.
A Berkeley Heights resident, Linda has made community involvement an important part of her business. She welcomes a student with developmental disabilities from Governor Livingston High School who volunteers at the shop for two hours each Thursday, gaining experience in a working business environment. She also employs a young man with Down syndrome who works at the store every other Wednesday.
It's these kinds of relationships that don't always make it into a business's advertising, but they say a great deal about the people running our neighborhood shops.
And when customers make a purchase at Linda's Creative Gifts, they're helping support not only Linda's business but also the many artists whose work fills her shelves.
The Challenges Behind the Holiday Cheer
Like so many independent retailers, Linda looks forward to the holiday season. It's busy, it's fun, and there's always something new arriving from her artists.
But she is also realistic about the challenges facing small businesses.
When asked what concerns her most heading into the holidays, Linda didn't hesitate to point to online shopping and Amazon. It's a concern shared by many small business owners who are working harder than ever to compete for customers' attention and dollars. And while we often think of online shopping as the easier option, Linda has made sure her customers have that convenience, too.
Last June, she launched a website featuring the merchandise available in her store, complete with photographs and descriptions. She also offers gift wrapping and shipping throughout the United States. So even if you can't make it into the store, you can still support a local business while checking off your holiday shopping list.
And let's face it, having someone else wrap the gifts is a pretty nice bonus during the holiday rush!
The Work Behind the Scenes
One thing Linda wishes more people understood about small business ownership?
"It's ALOT of work!"
And she's right.
Beyond helping customers and keeping the store stocked, Linda works with numerous artists, manages monthly payments to them, keeps up with trends, and constantly looks for new and interesting merchandise. It's the kind of behind-the-scenes work most shoppers never see.
When you walk into a small business, you're often walking into someone's dream, one that takes a tremendous amount of time, energy, and dedication to keep going.
This Holiday Season, Think Local First
When asked what she would like holiday shoppers to know, Linda's message was simple: shopping at her store supports local and American artists, including artists with developmental disabilities, who work hard to create beautiful, unique gifts.
And that's really what this holiday series is all about.
Supporting local doesn't mean you have to do every bit of your holiday shopping in your hometown. It simply means remembering that we have some pretty amazing businesses right in our own backyards.
Before automatically clicking that familiar online shopping button, consider taking a walk through one of our downtowns. Stop into a store you've never visited. Meet the owner. Ask about the products. You might discover something wonderful, and your purchase may mean more to someone than you realize.

Because when we support local, we're supporting so much more than a business. We're supporting our neighbors, their dreams, and the communities we call home.
This article is the first in Antonietta’s "Home for the Holidays" series, celebrating the independent businesses, creative entrepreneurs, and hardworking people who make our New Jersey communities special. Throughout the holiday season, we'll be sharing their stories and reminding shoppers that some of the best gifts and shopping experiences can be found close to home.
