Homecoming & Street Fair Sept. 9 in Summit
Join Beacon Congregation for Water Communion & Family Fun

Join us on Sunday, September 9, for Homecoming at Beacon Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Summit—there will be two special services including our water communion, plus a street festival with food, fun and entertainment, open to all.
Beacon is located at 4 Waldron Ave., at the corner of Springfield Ave. in Summit. Part of Waldron will be closed off for the fair, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend at no charge.
Rev. Robin Tanner, minister of worship and outreach, will begin the morning by leading services at 9:30 and 11 a.m. Her sermon will explore the theme of Beacon’s new congregational year, Rooted in Relationship.

"In a country where one in four Americans report they have no one to confide in, we are committed as a congregation to build relationships among our members and to extend our welcome far beyond our physical walls,” Rev. Tanner said.
Both services will include the Unitarian-Universalist ritual of water ingathering, or water communion. Congregation members bring water from a special place in their summer lives—the ocean, the desert or even the garden hose—and pour the water into a common vessel to signify their relationships to each other and their dedication to the movement’s Seventh Principle, “respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”

A small amount of the collected water is filtered and used throughout the year for baby dedications and weddings.
The street festival will begin after the first service and include a bouncy castle, carnival games and light refreshments. Families and other passersby are invited to sit down at the tables to eat, relax and talk.
Beacon draws members from various religious and cultural backgrounds who join together in their individual quests for truth and meaning. Our mission is to be a radically inclusive religious community that feeds the human spirit and heals the world. We are a member congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations.
