JLS Helps Fight Summer Hunger

Junior League members and their children answered the call to help the hungry in our area Tuesday. We funded and packed 500 sustainable lunches at the Bridges Outreach Headquarters in Summit. It was effort to help Bridges Outreach climb toward its goal of providing 4,000 sustainable lunches by summer's end.

During the summer months, hunger in the New York-Metropolitan area reaches crisis levels. Many programs that provide food the rest of the year go on hiatus from June through August. Bridges Outreach provides care to the homeless and hungry in Summit, Irvington, Newark and Manhattan.

The JLS will be packing 500 more lunches for Bridges Outreach next week.

The JLS is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.  For information about joining, please contact us at jlsoffice@yahoo.com.
