Junior League of Summit Announces Book Drive to Benefit Moms Helping Moms

Local organization aims to collect 1,000 books

The Junior League of Summit (JLS) is starting a campaign with the goal of collecting 1,000 new or gently used books for children ages 0-12.

Book donations will be collected until April 25 at local businesses including: Zadie’s Nurture Den, Cornerstone Pre-School, St. Theresa’s, Chatham Middle School, Central Presbyterian Church Nursery School & Kindergarten, YMCA Summit, and the Junior League Thrift Shop in Summit.

An event promoting childhood literacy, The Great Book Bash, will be at the Summit Community Center on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This event will be a free community event for children K-6th grade in which the donated books will be formally given to local community organizations, including Mom Helping Moms (MHM) which accepts books for ages 0-5. The event will also include literacy-themed activities, such as bookmark decorating and storytime reading by a children's book author. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

“We’re setting an ambitious goal, but we know what this community can do when it comes together,” says JLS President April Montgomery Greene. “When our community shows up in this way, we can create meaningful access to imagination and opportunity. We hope you’ll join us.”
